
Santa Croce sull'Arno lies on the right bank of the Arno river, slightly downhill form its confluence with the Egola stream. It's the capital of Tuscany's leather tanning district and leather and shoemaking industry. The district was taken as model of sustainable development by national and international industries. The original town has a rectangular plant, with perpendicular streets. The medieval castle, is mentioned in documents of the thirteenth century. The church, rebuilt in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, presents Roman ruins, worked choirs of the fifteenth century and paintings of seven-eighteenth century
